How do I measure for a wig?

Use a flexible measuring tape for the most accurate result.

Start at the centre of your forehead, following your natural hairline. Wrap the tape around to the nape of your neck and bring it back up to the starting point. Make sure the tape sits snug, but not too tight.

Choosing your size

Head shapes can vary, which means the same wig may fit slightly differently from person to person.

Most clients fall between sizes. If you are unsure, sizing down is usually recommended for a more secure fit, as the cap will stretch and adapt over time.

If you are prone to headaches, you may prefer sizing up, although this can result in a slightly looser fit at the nape.

Hair by V wigs are all adjustable with elastic straps inside the nape of the wig, allowing the fit to be tightened or loosened comfortably, no matter where you fall within the size range.

The ear-to-ear (over the top) measurement is one of the most important for overall fit.

Extra fit guidance

From experience, many clients with a circumference of around 21.5 inches (54.5 cm) prefer an XS in lace top wigs (including myself).

This is because the ear-to-ear and front-to-nape measurements often align better, while the circumference of the cap will gradually adapt thanks to its natural stretch, resulting in a secure, snug and comfortable fit.

A slightly snug fit is often preferred, as it feels more secure and looks more natural.

Most of my clients fall within XS and S, which is why these are the sizes I focus on for stock.

Size charts are a guideline, but fit is influenced by multiple factors such as cap construction, stretch, and head shape.

Fit notes

The seamless silk top lace front wig provides a very snug fit. If you have long or thick bio hair, you may need to consider sizing up to allow for this.

A size S in the silk top lace front wig has the same fit as an XS lace top wig.

The hand-tied lace top wig has a very stretchy and comfortable cap, which generally feels less tight than a wefted back cap.

Custom sizing

If you prefer a more personalized fit, you can leave your custom measurements at checkout when placing your order.

Custom sizing is offered at no additional cost, the price remains the same as a standard size.

What if I’m between sizes?
Most clients fall between sizes. If you are unsure, sizing down is usually recommended for a more secure fit. The ear-to-ear (over the top) measurement is one of the most important. You can also provide custom measurements at checkout for a more personalized fit.
